Fixed Dental Bridges

One of the easiest “fixes” to dental issues for front teeth is fixed dental  bridges.  A fixed bridge replaces a missing tooth with an appliance that has the appearance of a natural tooth. The restoration is made of porcelain and is bonded onto the surrounding teeth for support.  Fixed bridges can not be taken out, as with a denture appliance, but can only be removed by a dentist.  Fixed bridges typically only last about ten years, but offer an alternative to partial dentures.

Dr. Gilbertson attaches the Fixed Dental Bridge through the following procedures:

  • First, assessment is completed for oral health and patient needs
  • Second, you will be given an anesthetic to numb the area
  • Next, the adjoining teeth are removed to attach the bridge
  • Next, impressions are made to make the bridge from (sent to a laboratory)
  • A filler tooth is placed inside the missing tooth area until the bridge is made and the area where the teeth where removed heals
  • Finally, the new Fixed Bridge will be fitted, adjusted and cemented to the teeth.
  • Care is needed for the teeth to harden and set.  Dr. Gilbertson will call shortly after fitting to make sure the teeth are setting well for bite and appearance.
