Dental Sealants, Phoenix and
Scottsdale, Arizona
Gilbertson
Family and Esthetic Dentistry offer dental sealant services in Phoenix and
Scottsdale, Arizona. Dr Gilbertson recommends
sealants as a preventative measure to dental care. Most teeth have grooves and pitting that
allows food and plaque to build up and eventually cause tooth decay. Cavities can be prevented with a plastic
bond-sealant that stops the bacteria build up on teeth. Dental sealants are thin, plastic
coating applied to the grooves on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth to
protect them from tooth decay by keeping food particles and germs out of these
grooves. The bonding resin fills in the grooves of the
teeth making brushing easier because the grooves are filled in and no plaque or
food can get trapped.
Most dentists recommend bonding of teeth be done at an early age. We recommend dental sealants as part of a child’s total preventative dental care program. This is most often recommended as younger children do not brush properly and teeth are still forming.
The process of applying a sealant is simple and short, and
no drilling or removing of the tooth structure is required. Sealants are clear,
white or slightly tinted, and they can only be seen up close. Sealants protect
teeth from permanent damage caused by decay, and a sealant can last for up to
ten years. Sealants can save time and money and prevent you from a potential
filling. In addition to fluoride, twice-daily brushing, and regular dental
care, we recommend sealants as an additional step to proper dental care.
